Dining and Entertaining In Las Vegas

Do you know Las Vegas? Last year, 800,000 Asians traveled there. Why does Vegas draw so many people? Maybe Asian people love this because: you can gamble(赌博) in Vegas; there is flashy (闪光的) culture and theme(主题) park. Besides, there are good hotels. “High season” here is every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so the best time to get a good price on a beautiful room is mid-week.
What else can you do in Vegas? ?So many. In less than four hours you can move quickly from your hotel to the Grand Canyon(美国一个有名的大峡谷) via plane. You also can enjoy a champagne(香槟酒) picnic in there. There is also world class shopping, so you can enjoy shopping there.

    Japan Takes a Bath

Besides Tokyo Bay(东京湾), there is a vast spa(矿泉,矿泉疗养地,游览胜地). The new Tokyo spas are very different from the bathhouses. At a bathhouse, visitors pay about $4 to scrub(用力擦洗) in regular water. They have to be out at around mid-night. All the new Tokyo spas will provide real hot mineral(矿物的) springs. They offer more services and longer hours.
As the economy(经济) gets worse, spas become more popular. Already many books and TV programs offer to lead travelers through the hot-spring circuit(回路). Enjoy the waters, while you can.

At the new year day, Lily's grandparents came to see her from the countryside. They lived at there for a long time. On the way home, Lily introduced some changes about the city to them.

    Lily=L Grandpa & Grandma = G

L: Happy New Year, grandpa and grandma. Long time to see you.

G: The same to you, Lily.

Lily helped them to pick up some luggage and brought them to the bus station.

G: What a big station here! There weren't any stations here. When we wanted to go some places, we only walked to there or by a track.

    L: By a track?

G: Yes, some track used to carry pigs, stones or rubbish.

L: Oh, that is surprise to me.

Five minutes later, they arrived at Lily's home.

L: Please get up. It's here.

G: Woo, it's so fast now. At that time, we spend 40 minutes to arrive here. But now, we only spend 5 minutes. The city is quite different.

    Everything Has Changed

I can't feel my love anymore

    Don't thrill me like before

I don't want to talk to anyone

All the words that used to work

    Are melted in the sun

    Faces look familiar,

    But they don't have names

Towns I used to live in

    Have been rearranged

    Highways I once traveled down

    Don't look the same

    Everything has changed

I can't find my joy anywhere

All the magic vanished into the misty air

And I can't find my joy anywhere

Now I don't know where my faith has gone

From the wonder I had a sense of

To the brightest star that shone

And now I don't know where my faith has gone

    Faces look familiar,

    But they don't have names

Towns I used to live in

    Have been rearranged

    Highways I once traveled down

    Don't look the same

    Everything has changed

    Great Changes in My Hometown

I used to live in a small town with trees all around.

There was no tall building and the only street was narrow. Just outside the town, there was a river. You can see different kinds of fish swimming in the clear water. People here lived a simple life.

But those years, great changes have taken place here. You can see tall buildings, big department stores and factories everywhere. Different kinds of cars and buses are running in the big streets. But with the development of the industry, we have fewer trees and flowers. Air and water pollution is becoming more and more serious and do more harm to us human beings. We must do something to stop pollution and make our town even more beautiful.

My new bed in my bedroom

My daddy bought me a new bed for my birthday present. Now, the lovely bed is in my bedroom. It is a very beautiful, softy, and big one, and I like it very much.

Since I was born, I slept in a very small bed. My old bed was just for a single person, it can't hold two persons at a time. Because it is too small, sometimes, I easily fall onto the floor and sleep till the day is break. And the most badly is that the bed never makes me comfortable for the hard quilt and ugly color. So I told my daddy that I did not like the old bed. But unfortunately, those days, my daddy earned little money and my family led a very poor life. So my daddy had no extra money to buy a new and nice bed for me. Till now, my daddy earns twice than before and my family life is much better than before. So, this birthday, my daddy bought the new bed for my birthday present.

This is the Mickey mouth on my new quilt and the soft and big bed brings me good dreams every night. Now, I know, I would never fall onto the floor again.

    PuDong Has Changed

It was a Sunday morning. I went to attend the opening ceremony of English Salon in Pudong District. I had been informed about the development in the new area before. So I wanted to enjoy the scenery of it on the way. But to my disappointment, it happened to be heavily foggy that day. Pudong was just like a charming and shy girl who hid herself from view so as not to let people see her real beauty.

The ceremony was a great success. Many English learners from different middle schools in Pudong and some foreign teachers gathered there. As it was the first English corner in the new area, everyone seemed to be much excited. After introducing each other, we chatted a lot, especially about Pudong. A girl of my age told me that her family had settled down in Pudong years before. She found it much more beautiful now. Two long tunnels and two huge bridges connecting the two parts of Shanghai have been built and the traffic has become more convenient. So many department stores, shopping centers and supermarkets have been set up that. ” In our home we enjoy modern comforts such as gas, telephone. People used to say——we would rather have a bed in Puxi than own a room in Pudong. But now things have completely changed. I love Pudong more”. The more she said, the more excited she became. What she said was full of deep confidence and pride in the new area.

It was already midday when the ceremony ended. The fog had disappeared and the sun was brightly shining. On my way home, I contemplated the magnificent scenery, recalling the girl's praise of Pudong. She was right, I thought.

    Changes in Shenzhen

    now

Before 1979, Shenzhen was a small town. In the 1980s, it started to change. People came to Shenzhen from all over the country. They worked very hard in factories, banks, shops, schools and offices.

Workers also built a lot of tall buildings in Shenzhen. There are tall apartment buildings and office buildings. There are also large shopping malls. People can buy things at good prices there. People like to live, work and shop in Shenzhen.

Before the 1980s, there were only small roads in Shenzhen. Now there are a lot of modern roads and highways. There is always a lot of traffic in Shenzhen—day and night. Shenzhen became a big city in just 10 years.

    Long ago now

Long ago, people sent someone else to deliver letters far away. Now, we send e-mails through our computers.

Long ago, people used candles to see at night. Now, we turn on the lights with a switch.

Long ago, people brought water into their home with buckets. Now, we get water from faucets on our sinks.

Long ago, people cooked over a fire to make their meals. Now we cooked on a stove.

Long ago, people used straw brooms to sweep dirt off the floors. Now, we use vacuums to clean dirt out of the carpets.

Long ago, people washed clothes by hand. Now, we use a washing machine.

Long ago, people drew pictures by hand. Now, we use a camera to take pictures.

Life long ago was different than it is now.
